Varvatsi Caviar

Inspired by Varvakis' indomitable spirit and entrepreneurial brilliance, VARVATSI embarks on a delightful journey through the rich culinary landscape of Russia and beyond. Just as Varvakis fearlessly explored uncharted territories, we traverse the globe to procure the finest products and craft each one with exceptional care and passion.

Ioannis Varvakis (1745–1825) was a Greek pirate, merchant, and philanthropist who played a crucial role in both the Russian and Greek history. Born on the island of Psara, he initially worked as a privateer against the Ottoman Empire. He later allied with Russia during the Russo-Turkish War (1768–1774) and was granted nobility by Empress Catherine the Great. Varvakis gained his wealth from the lucrative caviar trade in the Caspian Sea, becoming an influential businessman in Russia.

Essence of the brand

Although the brand is strongly connected to the historical figure, it was also essential to reflect his adventurous personality and openness to a new era. With strong ties to the traditional caviar business, the Varvatsi brand stands out as forward-thinking.
